How do I add a friend?

Open the Friends tab and tap the + at the top right. That opens Add a friend: one field, and Lumoria works out what you typed. There are no tabs to choose between.

What you can type

• A @username: Lumoria searches as you type and lists people whose handle starts the same way. Tap the person-with-a-plus button next to the right one to send the request.
• A 16-digit code: the number printed under the QR on someone’s profile card. Lumoria shows you whose code it is first, then you send.
• An email address: for someone who isn’t on Lumoria yet. Tap send and your Mail app opens with an invitation ready.
• A phone number: the same, in Messages.

Only the @username is a search. An email or a phone number is never checked against other people’s accounts. Lumoria treats it as an address to invite, not a person to look up. So the only way to find someone already here is their handle, their code or their card.

You need a @username of your own first. Tap + without one and Lumoria asks for it: “Claim your @username.” It takes a few seconds. “What is my @username for?” explains why it’s the gate.

Scanning a card instead

1. In Add a friend, tap the QR button at the top right.
2. Point the camera at their card. The request goes as soon as it reads.
3. To be scanned rather than to scan, tap Show my card. The panel flips over to your own card.
4. No camera to hand? Tap Invite via code and type the 16 digits.

The QR on a card is an ordinary web link, so the iPhone’s own Camera app reads it too: it opens Lumoria and sends the request from there. “What is the profile card?” covers designing your own.

If they aren’t on Lumoria yet

Tap the share button at the top of Add a friend (the square with an arrow) and your invite link goes to the share sheet. From there it can travel by message, mail or anything else on your phone, and you don’t need their address at all. When they install Lumoria and open the link, a friend request from you is waiting for them.

What happens after you send

The request waits. Their row changes to “Friend request sent”, and they see it the next time they open the app, or sooner, as a notification. If they had already sent you one, sending yours connects you both on the spot. Nothing happens until somebody accepts.

A request carries your @username and nothing else. Your name and your picture appear to them only when the request is accepted. “What can my friends see about me?” has the whole list.

Codes are limited to about ten lookups a minute, so nobody can guess their way through them. Go over and you get “Too many attempts. Try again in a minute.” Nothing is broken: wait a minute.
